Every Family has a Story: Welcome to Ours!!
At Coopers Cookin and Catering, Southern soul food is more than a menu — it’s a legacy built on family, tradition, and generations of love shared around the table. Located in historic downtown Orange, Virginia, our restaurant was created to honor the recipes and memories passed down through the strong women who shaped our family’s culinary heritage. Every dish we serve reflects the comfort, warmth, and storytelling that only true home cooking can provide.
At the heart of our kitchen is our award-winning fried chicken recipe, lovingly passed down from our family matriarch, Mildred Cooper. With roots dating back nearly 200 years to nearby Gordonsville, this closely guarded recipe represents more than great flavor — it represents perseverance, family pride, and tradition. Today, owner Denise Thompson continues to preserve and protect that legacy, sharing the same soulful cooking that once brought generations of family together.
Everything served at Coopers Cookin and Catering is prepared fresh in-house from scratch. From classic Southern sides to homemade pies, cakes, and cheesecakes, each meal is crafted with care and a touch of nostalgia that brings guests back to simpler times. Whether you’re joining us for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, enjoying karaoke with friends, celebrating a birthday, or trusting us to cater your special event, our goal is simple — to make every guest feel like family.
Coopers Cookin and Catering stands as a tribute to the love, strength, and tradition of Mildred Cooper, whose spirit continues to live on in every recipe we serve and every guest we welcome.
